The circumstances surrounding a viral video where an e-hailing driver was stabbed and robbed on Tuesday morning are under investigation.

The vicious act was caught on camera and has since made the rounds on social media with police on the hunt for the perpetrators.

The video clip has been released and shows the e-hailing driver with two men, one in the passenger seat and another one seated in the back seat, driving around 7:40am on Tuesday morning in Bottelary Road.

The e-hailing driver can be seen driving to an undisclosed location with the map route on his phone and conversing with the men.

The man seated in the passenger seat is seen checking his phone then proceeds to lean forward with his head in his hand and unexpectedly pulls out a knife and stabs the driver twice in the chest.

The passenger grabs the driver's cellphone and the driver manages to get out of the vehicle, before he is pursued by the two men.

The video was posted by community organisation Kraailove, who posted an update in the comments section saying the driver is recovering well.

Attempts to get in contact with the driver were unsuccessful.

Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, said Brackenfell police are investigating.

"Brackenfell police registered a robbery with firearm case for investigation following an incident on Tuesday, August 5, at about 6am, on the Bottelary Road, Brackenfell, in which a e-hailing driver was stabbed and robbed of his cellular telephone.

"The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made."

Attempts to get comment from the e-hailing company were unsuccessful by deadline.

Police are appealing to anyone with any information about the incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.
