Police seize seven firearms from Strand resident in major arrest

Police in Strand discover seven firearms and ammunition at a residence.

Police have confirmed the arrest of a 68-year-old man in Strand who was found with seven different calibres of firearms and ammunition at his home.

Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, said they were responding to information when they visited the man’s address in Gulden Crescent.

“The commitment of police members to create a safer environment for the communities resulted in the detention of a 68-year-old man for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition,” he said.

 “Police members of the Anti-Gang Unit pursued information of firearms and ammunition stored at a residence in Strand.

"On Monday June 23, 2025, the members operationalised the information and tactically approached an address in Gulden Crescent . 

“Upon entering the home at about 1:30pm they searched the premises and in the process confiscated seven different calibre firearms and ammunition in a steel cabinet inside the house.

"Their search continued to the garage where they recovered two more firearms and ammunition which led to the detention of a 68-year-old man for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

“Once charged the suspect is expected to make a court appearance in the Strand Magistrate's  court on the mentioned charge.”

 Meanwhile, members of the Anti-Gang Unit deployed in Hout Bay seized firearms and ammunition during crime prevention operations on June 16.

The members conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Salamander Road, during which they arrested an 18-year-old male who was found in possession of a .38 special revolver without a serial number and a 9mm pistol with 55 rounds of ammunition.

He faces charges for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
