The V&A Waterfront has warned fighting teenagers inside the mall, that they will receive a written warning.
This, while statements will be taken by their security officials and video footage of the incident will be handed over to the police.
This comes after social media was once again abuzz after two girls allegedly fought at the mall and children were seen running inside.
In 2021, a young man was stabbed during an incident at the mall following a confrontation, with video footage showing one of the persons involved holding a large knife.
The latest weekend's activities marked the end of the June exams in the Western Cape.
V&A Waterfront head of communication, Donald Kau, said a safety strategy was in place in the event of any violence caused by customers, which involved providing statements to their officials and the police.
“As you would expect we are concerned when these incidents take place as they place the participants as well as visitors to the Waterfront in danger and disrupt everyone from enjoying their outing to our neighbourhood,” he said.
“We manage a comprehensive security operation that monitors and anticipates increased activity across the property over weekends, public and school holidays, major public entertainment and sport events, brand activations etc, with our security officers reacting quickly to intervene when necessary.
“In the instance of youngsters caught participating in these fights, statements are taken by our security officials, written warnings are provided to the individuals in our custody, the parents and SAPS notified and where a police investigation is necessary, we would supply the investigating officer with security footage and reports of the incident. The spontaneous nature of these incidents has seen us increase the number of our security personnel as well as improve their capability to respond everywhere that gatherings take place.”
Vanessa Herbst, Marketing Manager, Canal Walk said they will be increasing security measures as holiday season begins once again: "Canal Walk offers great shopping and entertainment for teenagers which includes top fashion brands, a food court, karting, game arcade and movies. Due to this offering, we do experience an influx of teenagers during the holidays.
"We will be putting in place additional measures which include heightened security and additional undercover security presence at our centre.
"We kindly encourage parents or guardians to accompany their children during visits to the centre to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
The safety and security of our shoppers, tenants, as well as all staff on site remains our number one priority."
