Three suspects arrested after high-speed chase and shootout in Brackenfell

Three suspects were apprehended by police after a high-speed chase and a shootout in Brackenfell on Sunday night.
According to SAPS, the drama went down after an armed robbery in Yzerfontein earlier in the day, when suspects reportedly stole valuables from the premises and fled the scene in the complainant’s Toyota Urban Cruiser.
Police were alerted to be on the lookout for the vehicle, only for it to be spotted on the N1.
The Maitland Flying Squad gave chase and pursued the suspects into Brackenfell, where the driver crashed on the corner Frans Conradie and Okavango Roads.
Cops managed to apprehend the suspects after they resisted arrest.
Residents said they heard approximately ten gunshots were heard.
SAPS spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said: “Reports suggested that three armed males entered a premises in Yzerfontein on the same day where they took valuables from the premises after which they fled the scene in the complainant’s Toyota Urban Cruiser.
“An all points broadcast was done and the members noticed the suspicious vehicle on the N1 highway and gave chase.
“When they approached the corners of Frans Conradie and Okavango Roads in Brackenfell, the driver lost control and collided with a lamp post.
“The occupants resisted their arrest, the police members brought the situation under control…
“They detained the three men for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle, the possession of presumed stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, attempted murder, attack on police and resisting arrest.”
