Management of the Bellville United Soccer Club say they have been left frustrated at the state of their clubhouse, which has been without flood lights for more than a decade, vandalised toilet facilities and damaged ceiling boards.
While footing the bill themselves for installation and paint, they said they have pleaded for over a decade for repairs to be done to infrastructure damaged by criminals.
“The City is not adhering to our request when it comes to maintenance on our clubhouse,” said the management, who listed their grievances with the Cape Argus.
"We are sitting without floodlights for more than 10 years."
They said the facility lacked security to protect its infrastructure and that officials in charge of it, ignored their requests.
"The club must buy paint to mark the fields for a Saturday when we need to play but we need to book them and pay for the field.
"The person responsible for the maintenance of the clubhouse from the City is not supporting us; he doesn't even reply to our requests. If he had to reply or do anything the clubhouse would never look like this.
“We received five ceiling boards from the City's official and we fitted it ourselves.
“A few plumbing materials were given to us and we paid a plumber to have it fixed.
"The window where the burglars came in wasn't fixed and on June 21, 2025 , they entered the same window and stole the urinal fittings again.
“So our question is where are the budgets to maintain the clubhouse because nothing has been done for years now."

Ward councillor, Merica Kleinsmith, said the facilities officer in question preceding that area was currently on sick leave and that she would investigate.
“I only have an oversight role, I am not implementing repairs and maintenance but I do give budgets towards sports facilities and in this ward allocation, I also provided funding for the pigeon racing club,” she said.
The City of Cape Town is set to respond to queries.
