Kleinvlei police station came under attack after recent gang arrests were made. Brazen gunmen, who fired shots from a vehicle at Kleinvlei Police Station and caused damage to infrastructure, are being sought by the Hawks, the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation.
The gunmen were travelling in a VW Polo and opened fire while driving past the building just after midnight on Wednesday. Police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said fortunately there were no injuries.
It is unclear at the moment what the motive was and how much damage to the infrastructure was caused.
“Shortly before midnight last night, Kleinvlei police station came under attack when unidentified assailants opened fire on the building from a charcoal-coloured VW Polo,” explained Traut. “Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The incident resulted only in structural damage to the facility. The case has been handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), and all further enquiries will be handled by their communications office.”
This is not the first time that the station has come under attack; three years ago, a case of arson was opened after two fires occurred at the premises. Three containers used as the detectives' offices were torched, and no one was left wounded during the incident. Furniture was also left destroyed in the blaze. It is also unclear whether any arrests were made for the incidents.
