Police arrest fifth suspect in Wynberg court murder case

Police have arrested a fifth suspect for the murder of 50-year-old Dingalomoyo Chintso at the Wynberg Regional Court on April 8. 

SAPS spokesperson, Novela Potelwa, said the arrest was made by Western Cape serious violent crime investigators.

Potelwa said the 20-year-old suspect is expected to appear in court on Friday.

"The 20-year-old suspect, believed to be key in the murder investigation, has been charged with murder.

"He is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's court on Friday, May 9, 2025.

"The latest arrest brings the number of suspects arrested in the murder investigation to five.

"As the investigation unfolded police indicated they had their sights on a number of suspects whom they believed were behind the shooting," said Potelwa.

Chintso was shot on the fourth floor of the Wynberg Magistrate's Court building which houses the Wynberg Regional Court. 

At the time of the incident an eye witness reported that a lone gunman wearing a maroon t-shirt and a black beanie approached Chintso and took a firearm out of his sling bag before firing four shots at his head.

Shireen Matthews, 35, from Strandfontein, was the first person to be arrested in connection with the shooting on April 13. 

Charged with premeditated murder, Matthews is believed to be the girlfriend of a high-ranking member of the Junky Funky Kids (JFK) gang.

On April 22, 24-year-old Abubaker Adams was arrested, followed by Brian Booysen, 34, from Vrygrond, and Wanay Farao, 22, from Belhar.

Deputy provincial police commissioner, Bongani Maqashalala, said police have since opted to beef up security at the court to avoid another incident.
