Speculation that 30-year-old pregnant Imaan Syms was shot 17 times has been defused by authorities who confirmed that four bullets penetrated her body.
Syms was shot in the chest and buttocks on Monday in Sussex Street, Woodstock.
Her father, Ziyaad Williams, was also allegedly a target and escaped the shooting unharmed.
Police picked up 9mm parabellum shells from the scene.
It has since emerged that Syms was in a relationship with Abdul Taliep "Dulla" Boonzaaier, who was shot and killed two years ago in Manenberg and was devastated by his death.
Boonzaier was the son of slain former Hard Livings gang leader, Rashied Staggie, who was murdered in 2019 in Salt River.
A video of Syms dancing and having fun with Boonzaaier was shared on social media.
The motive for the shooting has yet to be determined, with many speculating that it could be a love triangle or gang related.
Ziyaad Williams is the leader of the minstrel group, D Six Hanover Park.
He is also well-known for owning vintage cars that are used for matric dances.
Syms was expected to be laid to rest on Wednesday in accordance with Muslim tradition.
She is also a mother to a toddler and was in a new relationship according to close acquaintances of the family.
The family has yet to release a public statement and Williams has yet to speak with the Cape Argus after attempts were made to reach him.
Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, said there has been no arrests in the case as yet.
“Kindly be advised that the matter you are referring to is still under investigation. The investigating officer is following up all leads in a bid to make a breakthrough in the case.
“Anyone with any information about the shooting incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS application anonymously”
Gary Adams of the Woodstock Community Policing Forum said they could not comment on the allegations but said the victim had not been shot 17 times.
“Numerous shots were fired, four hit her in the chest and buttocks” he said.
“The community is in shock.
“The father dropped her off and it is alleged that two shots were fired at him and that he managed to drive off.”
According to a family friend, who asked not to be identified for safety concerns, Syms was in a relationship with Boonzaaier prior to his death and the family had suffered tragedy before.
“She was very traumatized when he was killed.
“The step-mother also committed suicide some years ago and this a very sensitive case.”
Police earlier confirmed that one gunman had fled the scene.
