Three bust for Uber hijacking

Cape Town – Three suspects were arrested for the hijacking of an Uber vehicle.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the driver was stopped by two men at gunpoint in the early hours of on Saturday on the University of Cape Town's upper campus.

They took his keys, cellphone, cash and shoes and drove off.

Van Wyk said police later arrested three suspects with the stolen car.

“No shots were fired and no injuries sustained,” he added. A case of car-jacking has been opened.

Uber Africa spokesperson Samantha Allenberg said it is also investigating the matter.

“We take any situation where driver safety is compromised extremely seriously,” she said.

The suspects, aged 23, 33 and 34, will appear in court soon.
