Omoda adds extra value to the lower end of the C5 range
The entry-level Omoda C5 Street gains a turbocharged engine.

The Omoda C5 has become a popular contender in the compact SUV space thanks to its combination of sporty styling and keen pricing.
Now the Chery-owned Chinese brand is sweetening the deal further with value-added enhancements at the lower end of its range.
This sees the entry-level Street version gaining the same turbocharged engine as the rest of the range, while the Style model now gets ‘X’ status, gaining the facelift that was already applied to the Luxury X and Elegance X models earlier this year.
Now referred to as the Street+, the base version swaps its normally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine, which produced 83kW and 115Nm, for the 1.5-litre turbo motor that delivers 115kW and 230Nm. Power goes to the front wheels through a CVT gearbox, which has ‘Eco’ and ‘Sport’ modes.
Priced at R339,900, the new turbocharged Street+ model comes at a premium of just R10,000 over its predecessor.
For that you get 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, push-button start, auto headlights, reverse camera and rear parking sensors. Safety features include front and side airbags and ESP stability control.

As the next rung on the range ladder, the Style X now retails at R374,000, also at a R10,000 premium over its predecessor.
In addition to the new frontal styling that ushers it into the C5 ‘X’ family, complete with LED headlights and a revised grille, the Style also gains a new dual-clutch transmission, replacing the previous CVT unit. It now offers three driving modes: Eco, Normal and Sport.
Like its more premium X siblings, the new Style X also swaps the previous torsion beam rear suspension for a multi-link set-up.
Over and above the features fitted to the Street+, the Style X is fitted with sports seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Both models are sold with a two-year or 25,000km service plan and five-year or 150,000km warranty, with first owners also enjoying engine coverage for ten years or one million kilometres.
