Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has introduced the Outlander Edition 25, a limited-run version of its seven-seater SUV, marking 25 years since the model’s global debut.

Originally launched in 2001 under the Airtrek name, the Outlander evolved into Mitsubishi’s core SUV offering. Edition 25 continues with the same platform and drivetrain as the current generation, while adding specific styling and interior changes.

Only 10 units of the Outlander Edition 25 will be sold in South Africa.

Exterior changes

The Dynamic Shield front grille receives revised finishes, while the lower skid guard adopts a more pronounced three-dimensional design. At the back, smoked tail lamp lenses contrast with the red lighting elements, and the rear skid plate has also been redesigned.

The lower bumper sections and pillar trims are finished in black, while it rides on unique 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. A panoramic sliding sunroof is also included as standard.

Technology and comfort upgrades

Inside, the Edition 25 retains the Outlander’s seven-seat configuration and introduces additional technology and trim enhancements.

The cabin features leather seats, with the driver’s seat offering eight-way electric adjustment, lumbar support and memory functionality. Ventilated front seats with three adjustment levels are also included.

A 12.3-inch infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with integrated navigation and voice control with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

The sound system is supplied by Yamaha and uses eight speakers. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, USB-C ports and a redesigned centre console with increased storage capacity.

All interior lamps have been upgraded to LED. The map lamp, room lamp, and personal lamp can be turned on and off with a capacitive switch. With the operation of the main switch and individual lamp switches, the lights now gradually turn on and off.

Additional equipment includes a surround-view camera system, powered tailgate with hands-free access, frameless digital rear-view mirror, rear window sunshades and door mirrors with memory and reverse tilt functionality.

Same engine and AWD system

The Outlander Edition 25 is powered by Mitsubishi’s 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 135kW and 245Nm of torque.

Power is delivered to all four wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. This electronically controlled system adjusts torque distribution between the wheels to maintain traction and stability.

Ground clearance is rated at 210mm.

Six selectable drive modes are available: Normal, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow and Mud. These modes adjust throttle response, steering, braking and all-wheel drive operation depending on driving conditions.

The Edition 25 joins the existing Outlander range and is positioned at the top of the line-up.

It comes with a three-year/100,000km warranty, a five-year/90,000km service plan and five-year unlimited mileage Roadside Assistance.
