Every time Tyla steps onto a red carpet, I can’t help but think of her hit song “Art”.
When she said, “I’ll be your piece, your A-R-T,” she really meant it, because all her looks sit on her like a piece of art, and this latest one is no different.
If there’s anyone who knows how to take over a red carpet and own the moment, it’s Tyla. The 24-year-old superstar showed up in a custom Javier Collazo that stunned many online and probably had them stopping mid-scroll to gasp over the flawlessness she is.
Her dress left little to the imagination, and she made it look effortless. This isn’t your safe, polished awards dress. It’s experimental, raw and very much Tyla. The textured, feathered piece that clings to her body and then falls into a dramatic, uneven train.
It’s all earthy tones, browns, creams, a bit of black, which gives it that almost wild, untamed feel. The way it’s cut shows off her shape and elongated legs; it just works.
The whole look plays with the idea of less is more, and Tyla herself loves it. Taking to X in response to a fan who admired her “beef with clothes”.
“I feel this so baddd because I know I rock anything!!!!!!!! but sometimes the looks be like ‘Girl, it’s my moment’. And I still love it,” she wrote.
Tyla kept everything else clean, so the dress could breathe. Her curls were big and voluminous, framing her face without competing with the outfit. When it comes to make-up, she kept it minimal and did just enough to define her dreamy eyes and her glowing skin.
She paired the look with clear heels and let the dress be the statement piece. Even the tiny silver stars placed from her rib down to her thigh were a deliberate detail.
The look also ties into the theme of her upcoming sophomore album "A*Pop", giving fans a clearer sense of her direction as an African pop star.
The “Truth or Dare” singer also had a role on the night, presenting the Breakthrough Award to Zara Larsson at the Billboard Women in Music event.
The ceremony took place on April 29 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and was hosted by Keke Palmer.
The annual Billboard Women in Music event honours some of the industry’s most influential women, recognising both rising stars and established names who continue to push the culture forward.
Artists including Teyana Taylor, Tate McRae, Ella Langley, Kehlani, Laufey and Mariah the Scientist were also honoured for their impact across the music industry.
