Lindsey Abrahams is an actress who could unexpectedly qualify as an unintentional life coach.
Best known here for her role as Chanel Samuels on the popular soapie "Binnelanders", Abrahams didn’t start her public life talking about laps or mental grit, but judging by her latest Instagram post, she’s becoming just as inspiring off‑screen as she is on it.
“I almost mistook boredom for incapacity,” she admitted, reflecting on how challenging herself physically has also become a mental lesson.
What’s surprising is that Abrahams is not a runner. She added, “Which is wild, considering I’m not a runner. I used to hate it, actually.”
But lately, she’s been deliberately putting herself in uncomfortable spaces, and the track has become one of them.
One morning, she found herself without music, which meant no distraction and no entertainment. “Just me, the rhythm of my feet, and the long, honest stretch of the track.” By the sixth lap, she wanted to stop, but instead of giving in, she paused and checked in with herself.
“It wasn’t my body failing me. I was just bored.” That insight sparked a moment of self-talk that changed everything. “Lindsey, you will never let boredom be the reason your progress stops. That will NEVER be you!”
Abrahams explains that being present - really present - exposes truths that distraction keeps hidden.
When she let go of the desire for entertainment and focused inward, she learned something about herself: growth often comes through repetition, discomfort and moment‑by‑moment presence. And yes, it sounds as dull as it feels when you’re in the thick of it - until suddenly, it’s not.
"I started listening more closely, not just to my body, but to my mind, my emotions, my inner dialogue."
What makes this message resonate, especially in a world addicted to dopamine hits, is that Abrahams didn’t finish the track because she was a runner.
In sharing her journey, she reminds us that progress doesn’t always need to be loud. It’s about showing up, staying present, and keeping your own voice at the forefront.
"Just me, learning that growth isn’t always loud. Sometimes it sounds like breath, self-control, and your own voice carrying you over the finish line. Turns out, discipline sounds a lot like your own voice when no one else is cheering."
