Raised in Hanover Park, South African DJ Chelsea Sloan was among the guests attending an invite-only event hosted by Johnnie Walker during Grammy week in Los Angeles.

The appearance placed Sloan within one of the music industry’s busiest global moments, as artists, executives and creatives gathered in the city ahead of the Grammy Awards.

Hosted at Max and Helen’s on Larchmont Boulevard, the celebration featured cherry-toned décor and floral installations inspired by Carpenter’s playful aesthetic, drawing a guest list that reflected the intersection of music, fashion and nightlife that defines Grammy Week.

For Sloan, the night marked another international touchpoint in a career shaped by discipline and versatility. Growing up in Hanover Park, she has previously spoken about using education, sport and performance as pathways to opportunity. Alongside her work as a DJ, she has a background in track and field athletics and has described an academic journey that included studying medicine, supported by a bursary, before music became her primary focus.

Musically, Sloan is known for DJ sets rooted in amapiano, while blending Afrobeat, hip-hop, R&B and dancehall — a sound that has helped her build momentum both locally and abroad as her profile continues to grow.

Johnnie Walker’s Grammy Week presence extended beyond industry events, with the brand also making its Go Go Highball available for a limited time at select Los Angeles venues, including Melrose Umbrella, Roger Room and Hotel Figueroa. According to the brand, the activations were designed to connect music, nightlife and contemporary culture during one of the industry’s most visible weeks.

As Grammy Week wrapped, Sloan’s attendance underscored a growing international visibility for the Cape Town DJ — a journey rooted in Hanover Park and shaped by education, athletic discipline and creative ambition.

She shared her journey via her Instagram account @Chelsea-Sloan Samuels.: chels_sloan, showcasing videos and photographs in preparation of attending and being present at the Grammy's.
