Nature steals the show: Corona Sunsets Festival comes to an abrupt end due to Doctor winds

Once again, Mother Nature said, “Relax, I’m still in charge here.” Cue the dramatic "Survivor" theme music, because the Corona Sunsets Festival in Cape Town turned into a survival story nobody signed up for.

The festival was all set to go down on Saturday, March 21, at The Glen Country Club. Vibes were planned. Outfits were carefully curated. Energy was through the roof, but the Mother City had different plans.

The infamous Cape Doctor wind pulled up uninvited and basically said: “Not today will you be stomping your feet on the ground for the entire night, I’m making noise tonight, baby!” And just like that, the party was cut short.

Now let’s not pretend people just casually attend festivals like this. No, no. This is a full production. Weeks of outfit planning, we’re talking crop tops, chokers, boots, a little boho moment, maybe even a fringe situation if you’re feeling brave.

And don’t forget the pre-drinks, because everyone knows festival prices will humble you real quick. People arrived ready to dance, ready to sing, ready to live their best lives.

But safety comes first, and organisers had no choice but to shut things down early due to the hectic winds.

That meant final performances from heavy hitters like Ndlovu Youth Choir, Liquideep and DJ Kent didn’t get their moment. Pain. Actual pain.

And because it’s 2026 and nothing happens without receipts, videos quickly flooded social media. One clip in particular shows crowds slowly making their way out, and you can just feel the disappointment through the screen. That quiet walk back? Devastating. Character-building, even.

Another video captured the aftermath in true Cape Town fashion, people making their way to the popular spot in Camps Bay. For those who know, you know.

“That was one hell of a windy walk to Cafe Caprice,” the caption read.

One netizen wrote, “I saw everyone streaming past my house like zombie apocalypse 😂.”

@Jay_koke took to X to post: "Second event cancelled because of wind… I get that weather is unpredictable, but isn’t this something organisers should anticipate, especially in Cape Town?"

Meanwhile, this netizen was glad their fomo turned into peace: "I had Corona Fest fomo until I saw clips today. Wdym they cancelled mid event because of the wind brah? Mind you, final phase tickets were R850," @nembuIa wrote.

At this point, the Cape Doctor is a personality trait. A chaotic one. And once again, it reminded everyone that in Cape Town, you can plan all you want, but the wind will always have the final say.
