Nearly five years after “Money Heist” ended, Netflix has officially confirmed that the franchise is far from over.

The streaming giant recently teased a new expansion of the “Money Heist” universe, sparking speculation that fans could get another season, more spin-offs, or even the return of familiar faces from the original series.

The announcement was made ahead of the release of spin-off show “Berlin” season 2, which premieres on Friday, May 15.

Building on the excitement, Netflix reportedly staged a dramatic reveal event in Seville, Spain, where a boat filled with people wearing the show’s famous red jumpsuits and Salvador Dalí masks sailed down the Guadalquivir River while “Bella Ciao” played in the background.

During the event, Álvaro Morte, who played the professor in the original series, appeared to announce the return of the franchise, immediately sending fans into a frenzy online.

Netflix also dropped a short teaser revisiting some of the biggest moments from the Royal Mint and Bank of Spain heists before ending with the words: “The revolution never ends.”

While the streaming giant has not confirmed exactly what the new project will be, fans online are in their feels.

Some are excited to see what is still to unfold in the heist territory while others are not impressed and believe the series should have ended “after the professor’s original plan succeeded” in season 5.

Reports circulating online in recent weeks have also suggested that a mini-series centred around Colonel Tamayo, played by Fernando Cayo, may already be in development.

Created by Álex Pina, "Money Heist" became one of Netflix’s biggest international success stories after premiering in 2017.

What started as a Spanish crime drama turned into a global phenomenon, with the show’s red overalls, Dalí masks and “Bella Ciao” anthem becoming instantly recognisable pop culture symbols.

Although the series started in 2017, it gained massive global popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, becoming one of Netflix's most-watched series ever.

Its 4th season which was released in April 2020, coincided with the lockdown. Watching the series become an escape for many when there was not much to do but stay indoors.

After topping global charts with over 65 million household viewers, the franchise successfully expanded its universe.

Following the 2022 debut of "Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area" and the 2023 launch of "Berlin", the saga continues with the highly anticipated 2nd season, "Berlin: Lady with an Ermine", premiering on May 15.

Although Netflix is keeping details under wraps, they have made it clear that the “Money Heist” universe is not closing its vaults anytime soon and the return could be season 6.
