In music, fame can sometimes take the spotlight away from what’s real. Trumpeter Mo-T, best known for his work with the award-winning band Mi Casa, is changing that.
With his "Forever Lounging" sessions, he’s starting something new that brings together music, storytelling, and real connection. It’s more than just playing songs; it’s about creating an experience that feels as big as a stadium show but as personal as a relaxed Sunday afternoon made just for you.
The passion stays the same. Speaking with "Independent Media Lifestyle", he says, “For me, it’s about delivering something meaningful whether the walls echo back stadium cheers or hushed conversations over cocktails."

Mo-T, the well-known trumpeter from Mi Casa, says this balance between big and small is what he calls his "50,000 to 50" philosophy. For him, it’s not about how many people are in the audience. It’s about making a real connection and sharing a moment where music changes the atmosphere and leaves everyone feeling uplifted.
Mo-T’s journey from front-stage showman commanding festival masses to curated maestro of "Forever Lounging" is a narrative steeped in intimacy and sonic exploration.
On one hand, there’s the high-energy spectacle of Mi Casa’s globally adored performances; on the other, a deeply personal playlist shared in the warm glow of bespoke lounge settings.
With “Forever Lounging", Mo-T invites you into his world: the music offstage, the soundtracks of relaxed Sundays, and soulful introspection.
"The same passion you see on stage with Mi Casa is reflected in 'Forever Lounging'. This time, though, I’m sharing my personal playlist, the music that moves me when the spotlight fades."
The session invites fans into his private world: a curated blend of soulful instrumentals and lounge beats crafted over years of practice, artistry, and introspection. It’s a space where he sheds the commercial expectations of the industry and instead offers something deeply personal and immersive.
“I’ve always loved music so deeply that I wanted to share what I listen to when the stage lights are off. That’s how ‘Forever Lounging’ came about. It’s an escape where people can fully immerse themselves; they don’t just show up, they arrive ready for an experience.”
The sessions attract a lively mix of guests, from locals to people from around the world. For example, a family from Australia went straight from the airport to one of his events.
“They told me they couldn’t wait to land; they saw this online and had to come. It shows you... It’s not just music; it’s a destination.”
Capturing legacy: The responsibility of brass
For Mo-T, carrying the legacy of the horn is both a privilege and a calling. His connection to the trumpet isn’t just artistic; it’s generational.
“My grandfather had a 50-piece brass band. He taught my dad, who eventually passed it down to me. Now my seven-year-old son is picking up the trumpet,” he shares, with unmistakable pride. This musical inheritance isn’t just family; it’s culture, one Mo-T is determined to nurture and share.
He explains in conversation that for him, the trumpet is more than an instrument; it’s a voice that tells a story without needing a single lyric (just listen to "Horns in the Sun" and you’ll get it).
While he’s deeply inspired by legends like Herb Alpert and his own family’s iconic brass legacy, Mo-T’s real mission is about the future. He’s all about evolving his sound while pulling up a chair for the next generation, passing on the "brass tax" of confidence and opportunity to young horn players everywhere.
“In South Africa, there’s often this undervaluing of brass players' low confidence, this assumption that horns are 'backing instruments'. But the trumpet has led entire stories. I want to create spaces and platforms to bring more horn players into the spotlight, giving them their due respect.”
He adds, That’s what ‘Follow the Horn’ is all about, building a future for instrumentalists in South Africa and beyond.”
Through both “Forever Lounging” and his next project, “Follow the Horn", Mo-T is building a future where brass musicians thrive, inspiring confidence, collaboration, and a celebration of instrumentals. He recounts a touching moment:
“Once, I got a message from someone in the U.S. They told me one of my songs helped save their family member, who was on the brink of suicide. Music can touch people in ways beyond our imagination.”
"Forever lounging" and the Fire & Ice collaboration
At the heart of “Forever Lounging” is more than music: it’s an immersive lifestyle experience. Partnering with the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice in Cape Town, Mo-T has created a boutique night out that blends fine food, sultry grooves, and a bespoke “staycation” vibe.
Guests arrive knowing they can let loose without worrying about how to get home, the perfect harmony of luxury and safety.
The partnership wasn’t incidental. Mo-T speaks of the patience it took to wait for just the right moment.
“We talked about this for ages, but I waited for the renovations to be complete. The venue had to match the vision: seamless, welcoming, innovative. And now, every session feels like magic where lounging turns into a full-blown party by the end.”
While it started in Cape Town, “Forever Lounging” is poised for national expansion, popping up in cities like Joburg and Durban. For Mo-T, it’s not tethered to one place; it’s a movement that can slip effortlessly into varying spaces.
“Whether it’s a hotel lounge or a rooftop under the summer stars, ‘Forever Lounging’ adapts wherever the people are.”
“It’s a feeling, a reminder to slow down, to appreciate the finer details in life, and to find joy in the sound of a horn carrying a melody that stays with you.”
When asked about the pressures of being an industry veteran and evolving through South Africa’s ever-changing music scene, Mo-T says, “I’m not competing with anyone else. I’m competing with myself. How do I not become the Mo-T of 2025 when I know I can aim for 2026?”
This relentless drive fuels everything he does, from following his instincts to expanding the horizons of the trumpet.
“You can’t just rely on nostalgia; you have to evolve. Music is about growth, practice, and opening doors for others. And that’s what all of this Mi Casa, ‘Forever Lounging' and ‘Follow the Horn' are about. It’s my way of teaching, of sharing, of building community.”
Even with the demands of his solo ventures, Mo-T remains grounded in his roots. This year marks 15 years of Mi Casa, a band that’s united people across South Africa and the globe with anthems of love, joy, and togetherness.
Reflecting on their journey, Mo-T shares, “It’s not just about the hits; it’s about the community we’ve built. This music continues to bring people from all walks of life together.”
As they prepare for a series of anniversary events, including a Friendship Cruise departing Cape Town in April, Mo-T acknowledges the dual importance of nostalgia and evolution.
“We’re celebrating our past, but we’re still creating for the future, not just for us, but for the fans who’ve walked this journey with us.”
