The buzz around "The Devil Wears Prada 2" has shifted from high fashion to real-world advocacy.

During production, Anne Hathaway took a principled stand to ensure the sequel represents a healthier range of body types on screen.

In a recent "Harper’s Bazaar" interview, Meryl Streep revealed that she and Hathaway were unsettled by the "alarmingly thin" models they saw during research at Milan Fashion Week.

Streep shared that the industry still seems to favour "skeletal" aesthetics despite years of talk about healthy standards.

Hathaway didn’t just watch, she acted.

“She made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal,” Streep said. “She’s a stand-up girl.”

The conversation also touched on Hathaway’s own feelings about ageing and appearance. She spoke openly about how her mindset has changed over time.

“Some days you look in the mirror, and you’re just like, ‘Not bad.’ And some days you look in the mirror, and you’re like, ‘What?’," Hathaway said with a laugh.

She added that she has learned to let go of pressure and accept herself as she is.

This move marks a huge evolution from the 2006 original, which was famous for its "size zero" culture.

In that film, Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, was constantly ridiculed for being fat.

It also featured Emily’s (Emily Blunt) iconic line, "I'm on this new diet. Well, I don't eat anything, and then when I feel like I'm about to faint, I eat a cube of cheese. I'm just one stomach flu away from my goal weight."

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" is set for release in May.

Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Stanley Tucci are all reprising their roles. The sequel will follow Miranda Priestly as she deals with the changing media world, including the decline of print magazines, and faces off with Emily Charlton, who now holds a powerful position at a competing company.
