Nostalgia takes over: celebrities reflect on their iconic moments from 2016

From throwback selfies to fashion trends and old aesthetics, the internet is being flooded with people’s 2016 pictures as people revisit a year that shaped their style and online personalities.

Just when we thought 2016 was firmly in the past, many online are declaring "plot twist". They are currently deep in their archives, riding a wave of nostalgia for an era when aesthetics were much less of a concern.

To prove that it was an iconic year, a lot of celebrities said “hold my cup” and quickly jumped on the bandwagon by also posting their 2016 era.

Below are some celebrities who re-posted their 2016 era:

Kim Kardashian

The Skims owner also joined the 2016 trend, taking us back to the iconic year when she had the world in her hands. Kardashian, at that time, was the queen of setting fashion trends by creating an iconic outfit with simply sweatpants and high heels.

During that year, she also made it to the cover of “Forbes” as one of the “world’s 100 top-earning celebrities.”

“I promise whatever happened to you in 2016, mine was crazier,” she captioned her post.

Rachel Kolisi

Kolisi also dug through her archives and shared with us that 2016 was a whirlwind year for her because a lot happened, from getting married to doing stock photoshoots and losing her grandpa.

She shared on social media pictures of her wedding day, when she visited Victoria Falls, her children and a few pictures with her friends.

“2016 what a year. Nic started school, I was desperately trying to find a job again after a year of unemployment (painted our whole house by myself while I was on the hunt), I was a bride.

“Went to Vic Falls (Zim) for my honeymoon, I started doing stock photoshoots to earn some bucks. Nic experimented with a number of different textures. It was the last year with my grandpa here,” Kolisi captioned her post.

Minnie Dlamini

The media personality shared with us that 2016 was a year that solidified her career in the entertainment industry. From being on campaigns with international celebs, hosting multiple award shows and getting engaged, she was having the time of her life.

Dlamini shared with us that she also travelled to three different countries during that year and was also honoured with two awards: Sexiest Woman in SA and Social Media Star!

“A little pink dress, A very full year. Grateful for the wins, the work, the laughter and the people who shaped that chapter. And I’m still at it,” she shared.

Lasizwe 

Another celebrity that joined the trend was Thulasizwe "Lasizwe" Dambuza, who shared memories from when he was still in matric and starting his career in the entertainment industry.

From being in school to taking pictures with celebs like Thando Thabethe, Boity Thulo, Jessica Nkosi and Natasha Thahane, he was living it up.

He shared that it is “crazy how time flies”, and it has been a journey for him, from 2016 until now.

The actress and seasoned radio host shared that 2016 was the year her career took off as she hosted the sama’s, she was acting on multiple TV shows, travelled the world and even took a video with thee Kylie and Kendall Jenner!

Thabethe was also a cast member on “Generations” and shared that she hosted a show on TLC called “The Next Great Presenter Search.”
