The stunning Eva Marcille, ex-America’s Next Top Model winner) returns to our screens, but as her own boss this time.
After appearing on Tyra Banks’s TV show, unlike some of the contestants, Marcille has grown in many ways. She’s been hustling in acting and it’s been going well as she has starred in TV productions like Smallville and Everybody Hates Chris. Yet nothing compares to her reality TV show called Hair Battle Spectacular.
Just like America’s Next Top Model, Hair Battle Spectacular is a competition, only this time, instead of models, we have hair stylists who will be tasked with making unique and outrageous hairstyles, all in hopes of winning the $100 000 prize. The winning styles could resemble anything from cars to animals. Think Cake Boss, where some components of the cakes are not edible, but add to the artwork.
With Marcille’s show, there is room to use all sorts of bells and whistles. The only prerequisite is that the hairdo should stay on the models’ heads. And you thought weaves were a big deal.
This is one show that the likes of Lady Gaga and Rihanna would love to watch. If you have been to any African hair salon, you’d know that they usually have posters of people like Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Ludacris and Usher on the walls. Of course, these stars do not even know that they are hair ambassadors in Africa. What the hairdressers are essentially trying to tell you, is that they can do whatever hairstyle you see on the posters. So it is common to hear a customer ask for the “Rihanna” or the “Beyonce”.
Here’s hoping that Hair Battle Spectacular brings us more ideas (crazy or otherwise) that can spice up life a bit.
The most positive thing about this show, after the crazy hairstyles that you will get to see, is that Marcille took a chance by skipping university to be on Banks’s show.
After she won the reality show, she left her studies altogether and started chasing the American dream. After a series of bit parts in TV and film, Hair Battle Spectacular is her first solo gig and we get to see her not only as an individual, but one who is in charge.
So, which contestants are you going to support?
Hair Battle Spectacular airs every Tuesday at 3pm on SABC3.
