Going live all over the world

Haezer ( pictured) is determined to turn all that glitters into gold. The Capetonian producer and DJ is embarking on a spectacular project which will lift his live show into the international arena.

Already this young man has fast-tracked his career onto the international dancefloors, playing Europe more than he plays his own home town. His recent European tour saw him play 34 shows, including nine festivals.

On Monday he released his second EP, Gold Plated Frequencies, and on December 18 he launches his Gold Plated and Live show at Side Show in the Cape Town CBD.

“I will be playing behind a programmable LED box,” he explains. “I’m also employing Feyoncé Knowles as my VJ.

“We are building a special stage with laser pillars and other 3D visuals mapped on the stage. The whole design aesthetic is simple. I like clean stages.

“I also have a friend who does animation and he will be designing liquid gold textures and melting gold for the set. At one point in the show the whole stage will be gold. I will also be incorporating dancers.”

So what’s the fascination with gold?

“I worked on this EP for so long, tweaking every frequency, staring at the wave forms for so long. I spent so much time getting the frequencies right.”

Aha, so the songs are as precious as the world’s favourite precious metal.

With such a phenomenal show planned, Haezer says he wants to take it overseas as opposed to touring it in South Africa. “It’s financially impossible to travel with it in South Africa. I have a VJ, three dancers and an overall cast and production team of nine people. Plus to be big in South Africa you have to be really mainstream and my music is for a niche market.”

Internationally, there is a big niche market for his music. He recently played a festival called Hurricane which was headlined by Arctic Monkeys and Ramstein.

“I played the dance stage. It was an amazing experience. I played really early and I didn’t think it would work. The crowd chanted my name for half an hour before I went on and my girlfriend started crying. I have toured Europe for four years and I am finally moving from clubs to festivals.”

He has also made a name for himself in Australia and plays Sydney on New Year’s Eve. “I am playing Wet and Wild, which is the biggest water park in the world.

“The sub-cultures are bigger overseas than they are here.

“Right now, however, my biggest priority is the live show. I want it to work like clockwork and get it out of Cape Town and overseas. For the show I will only be playing my music. I am a producer before I am a DJ so it will be nice to just play my own music.”
