Rising South African music star Shaun Jacobs says he is ecstatic that he will be the opening act for mega rock group Nickelback on their South African tour.
Jacobs will be supporting Nickelback on their two Joburg dates on December 6 and 8 at the Coca-Cola Dome as well as the two Cape Town gigs on December 11 and 12 at Grand West Casino.
Jacobs’s single Love Can, from the album of the same name, stayed at number one on the local iTunes charts for 12 weeks. His latest single, End of the Road, has made the top 20 local iTunes tracks.
“It’s a bit of a rush,” said Jacobs. “It feels like the biggest break in my career to date. I and the band are going to make the most of the opportunity.”
Jacobs said his management team had submitted his album to Big Concerts chief executive Attie van Wyk, who was very impressed with the album. “It all began when Attie listened to our CD and then sent the album to Nickelback,” explained Jacobs. “They replied by saying it was great. We are so grateful to Nickelback for choosing us.”
Commenting on what his fans can expect at the four concerts, Jacobs was circumspect. “Obviously we are not Nickelback, but we are going to have the best jol. We are very confident and we are going to go out and play like it’s the last night of our lives.”
As to whether he and his band would get to meet Nickelback, Jacobs shrugged: “I don’t know if we are.”
Nickelback are one of the most commercially successful Canadian groups and have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.
They burst onto the world music scene with their debut hit How You Remind Me. - The Star
