When it’s gone three in the morning and all the cab drivers have disappeared, not even being a member of the Royal Family wins you any special privileges.

Princess Eugenie, 21, found herself tramping the streets in her ankle socks, boots in hand, desperately seeking a taxi to take her home after an exhausting night out in London with friends.

It took fully half an hour before she managed to flag down a passing cabbie and take the weight off her aching feet.

Eugenie was on the town with boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, her armed bodyguard and a group of chums before returning to Newcastle for her final year of a degree in art history, English literature and politics. The Duke of York’s younger daughter, who is sixth in line to the throne after her father and sister Beatrice, was wearing a £55 Top Shop teal backless mini dress with a skinny gold belt and three-quarter sleeves.

It was the same fashion selection made by Coleen Rooney on Saturday, although sensibly the princess wore a black camisole underneath unlike the WAG, who chose a flesh-coloured bra.

Eugenie complemented the look with a brown leather shoulder bag, dangly earrings and, perhaps unwisely given the amount of walking which ensued, a pair of towering black block-heeled suede ankle boots.

The party ended up at The Box in Soho, the club which is notorious for its risque floor shows and has proved irresistible to young royals including Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice and Zara Phillips.
