AK-47 one of three rifles recovered by KZN police, private security

Durban — A multidisciplinary team recovered four firearms, including a pistol and three rifles, and ammunition in the Wartburg policing area in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
ET Rapid Response director Tony Lokker said that on Wednesday, the private security company, SAPS Provincial Trio and Vehicle Task Team, SAPS eThekwini inner and outer west CI, SAPS Durban K9 and another security company embarked on an intelligence-driven operation in the uMshwathi area in connection with firearms and ammunition.
Lokker said a suspect was arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.
He said one black Norinco pistol with one magazine, one AK-47 rifle with the serial number erased, a 303 rifle with the serial number erased and a hunting rifle were recovered.
They also recovered thirteen 9mm rounds, 57 AK-47 rounds, two 303 rounds and 17 shotgun rounds.
Police have been approached for comment.
