Jazz enthusiasts in South Africa are in for a treat as Grammy award-winning vocalist Gregory Porter is set to take the stage at the Durban International Convention Centre next month.
The much-anticipated concert will feature esteemed local talents, including pianist and composer Nduduzo Makhathini and singer-songwriter Omagugu, offering a celebration of musical prowess that promises to resonate deeply with audiences.
Hailing from KwaZulu-Natal, Ndu-duzo and Omagugu have nurtured both a personal and professional partnership that spans over a decade.
Their relationship blossomed while they were navigating their early musical careers, which has led to their stage synergy.
Omagugu's rigorous academic background in music, which included studies at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Tshwane University of Technology, and a Honours degree from the University of Fort Hare, complements Nduduzo's extensive education, which culminated in both his Master's and PhD qualifications from the University of Stellenbosch.
As accomplished touring musicians, Nduduzo and Omagugu have built an impressive catalogue of works, featuring on numerous influential projects that contribute significantly to the South African jazz landscape.
Their collaborative efforts have graced renowned festivals worldwide, from the Winter Jazz Fest in New York to the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, consistently leaving audiences captivated by their enchanting performances.
This year alone, the couple returned from two successful European tours, where their talent was given an international platform.
"Nduduzo is a rare breed; his ancestral connection through music allows safe passage for his audiences and when with the angelic Omagugu beside him, this experience is heavenly," remarked Greg Maloka of Griza Enterprises.
This sentiment is echoed by Tony Feldman, promoter of the Love is King SA Tour, who stated, "This is a unique opportunity for Durban jazz and music fans.
Seeing both South African and international talent of this calibre on the same stage doesn't happen often, it’s going to be a sensational show."
Porter's tour, aptly named "Love is King" South African concert series, will span three cities, including engagements in Cape Town and Johannesburg, tickets are available at show-time.co.za and ticketmaster.co.za.
Porter will perform in Cape Town on November 12, in Durban on November 15, and at Montecasino, Johannesburg for three nights, starting on November, 20.
