Chicken Licken had most of Mzansi fooled with their claim that they were ditching their rubber bands.

In an early April Fool's Day joke, the fast-food outlet announced that it would discontinue the use of rubber bands at all its branches with immediate effect.

In a brief statement issued on its social media platforms on Tuesday, the fast-food outlet said that any remaining rubber bands would be available while stocks last; however, the company did not provide a reason for the sudden discontinuation.

"After much consideration, we’ve made the decision to discontinue our rubber bands at all Chicken Licken branches with immediate effect. Remaining rubber bands will be available while stocks last. Thank you for your continued support and understanding," the company said.

The announcement has had mixed reactions on social media, with some users expressing nostalgia and amusement, while others voiced disappointment.

But, on Wednesday, Chicken Licken came clean!

They sure had us fooled
