Walmart Africa and Massmart chief operating officer, Dries D'Hooghe, has announced his stepping down from the company after being at the helm for almost a decade.
In a post he shared on LinkedIn, he said he leaves with gratitude for his journey.
"Walmart gave me and my family opportunities I couldn’t have planned for, from Canada to South Africa. I had the privilege of working with so many great people — supporting our associates, accelerating omni-channel through Covid in Canada, and later resetting the business and opening the first Walmart stores in Africa," he said.
He said he got fulfillment from investing in people and watching others grow.
D'Hooghe said he was grateful to his mentors who guided and challenged him, giving him room to grow.
"With that chapter complete, I now leave with gratitude, confidence, and excitement — energized for a new chapter ahead in Dubai," he shared.
He has taken over the role of Managing Director of Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour.
