In a remarkable celebration of tourism and the spirit of Cape Town, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has greeted its 33 millionth visitor, marking an extraordinary milestone since its inception in 1929. This significant event, occurring on Monday, 15 December, coincides perfectly with the kick-off of the festive season, capturing the joy and wonder that visitors experience when ascending the iconic Table Mountain.
Thabiso Letsoalo, a visitor from Limpopo, was taken by surprise as he and his partner, Ofentse Huma, prepared to board the cable car. Upon their arrival at the Lower Cable Station, they were greeted with a specially curated gift hamper and heartfelt recognition of their status as the milestone visitors.
Expressing his delight, Letsoalo shared, “It was such a lovely experience, the shock and thrill of the surprise made it even more special. We are having a great time, and it’s definitely one of those memories we’ll keep forever. Cape Town is just different and so beautiful compared to where we’re from, which is why we keep returning.”
Wahida Parker, the managing director of TMACC, articulated the pride and significance that this achievement holds, remarking, “Reaching 33 million visitors since the start of operations in 1929 is incredible for TMACC. Welcoming both our 32 and 33 millionth visitors in the same year is truly remarkable.”
She further highlighted the recognition of the Twelve Apostles Terrace as Africa’s Best MICE Event Venue in December. “Achieving this milestone amplifies the significance of this moment for us,” she said.
“This award showcases the strength of our offering in the business-events space and reinforces how Table Mountain continues to shape both leisure and corporate tourism in Cape Town.”
Table Mountain has established itself as not just a breathtaking natural wonder, but also a premier location for meaningful business gatherings and corporate events. The allure of the majestic mountain continues to attract tourists and professionals alike, fostering connections that resonate beyond the immediate experience.
During this busy festive season, Parker encourages prospective visitors to plan ahead. “We remind all who intend to visit this holiday season to buy tickets and save, download the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway app for operational status, weather updates, and queue information, as parking in Tafelberg Road is limited,” she advised.
The announcement of this momentous occasion is a testament to the enduring appeal of Table Mountain, and TMACC's commitment to offering memorable experiences that enrich both individual lives and the broader tourism landscape in Cape Town.
