Experience the thrill of the Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas and Festive Fair
South Africa’s racing community is on the brink of an exhilarating event, as Race Coast’s Summer Festival of Racing continues to shine with its highly anticipated Festive Fair featuring the Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas. This prestigious racing event is set to take place on Saturday, 13 December, at the renowned Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. Fans can expect a jam-packed day of high-stakes racing, live entertainment, and a vibrant Christmas market, perfect for those last-minute holiday shopping sprees.
The Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas marks its place as the second Grade 1 race during the Cape’s summer season. While the final field for Saturday’s race will be revealed mid-week, all eyes are currently set on two promising 3-year-old colts: Gimme Rules and Jan van Goyen. Each has notched up an impressive three wins from five starts, establishing themselves as potential contenders for victory. Gimme Rules, who races predominantly in Cape Town, is bred from the successful Gimmethegreenlight and Real Princess by Trippi. Meanwhile, Jan van Goyen, who has enjoyed a strong showing at Turffontein, is sired by Master Of My Fate and Daydream Believer.
The rich legacy of the Cape Guineas can be traced back to 1924, and this storied event has long been a breeding ground for champions. Its honour roll is decorated with the names of many legendary South African horses, promising yet another fiercely contested race this year. The previous edition of the Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas was won by One Stripe, who went on to compete in prestigious North American races.
As the day unfolds, the Festive Fair will be a highlight, featuring a Christmas market brimming with unique gifts and festive treats. Attendees can meander through a showcase of local vendors offering handmade crafts, perfect for those who are still hunting for that special holiday gift.
The event is poised to keep spirits high with an exciting entertainment lineup. DJ Sophie, who at just 12 years old is one of Cape Town’s youngest DJs, will take to the decks alongside DJ Vinny and popular singer Jarrad Ricketts, ensuring that there is never a dull moment. Moreover, the dedicated Kids’ Zone will keep younger guests engaged with video games, inflatable obstacle courses, and complimentary slushies, candy floss, and popcorn, creating a truly family-friendly atmosphere.
Doors to the Festive Fair open at 11am, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early and soak in the electrifying ambiance.
As night falls, the energy will shift with the KKKA (Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association) Voorsmakie. Gates will reopen at 17h30 for spectators to join a lively celebration featuring an array of music, colour, and culture. The Voorsmakie Parade will commence at 18h15, showcasing over 8,000 performers from 13 Klopse and 3 Atcha Troupes, giving audiences a sneak peek into the upcoming Hollywoodbets Cape Town Street Parade on 5 January 2026.
Entry to both the Festive Fair and the Voorsmakie is free; however, booking is essential. Interested spectators can claim their tickets via Computicket for the Festive Fair and tickets for the KKKA Voorsmakie will be available from lunchtime on 8 December.
