A group of spiritual dancers are making waves and spreading positivity in the gang and crime-ridden communities they hail from.
His Purpose Spiritual Dance Ministry is a group of 15 young girls between the ages of 10 and 21 years-old from Lavender Hill, Retreat, Steenberg and Pelican Park, who spread hope in their communities through their dancing.
The group was started by couple, Zhaundry and Amy Davids.
Their aim is to empower where there is no hope.
Davids said their desire was to showcase spiritual growth through dancing and to be supportive of the girls in their everyday lives.
“We started in church as a ministry and even through all struggles and hardship we continued and are still busy with the dancers as God has instructed us to according to His word we received in the book of Corinthians. We’re doing it to empower young kids and youth as we do not only focus on their dancing but also their spiritual growth as well.
“We even take it to the extent where we help them with their school work, subject choices, college registrations, job seeking.
“We believe in a vision and prophecies that God has given us and would like to fulfil it according to His will and plan.”
Davids said they were thrilled to be seen on television, reaching hundreds and thousands with their dancing, which was spiritual empowerment and growth.
“We've been on Expresso four times within a year. The experience was amazing firstly because spiritual dancers don’t get the opportunity to easily be seen on television and secondly because it is so different to ministering in a church.”
The girls dresses are made especially by veteran dressmaker and designer, Carol Michaels, who has more than 40 years experience’ in the industry.
Davids said: “Our amazing, talented, gifted aunty Carol has been making our girls’ clothing since the day we started this ministry, she’s always so eager to do it for us we truly appreciate her.
“She’s really good at what she does and we always brag about how she makes it without taking any measurements.”
Michaels said she was proud of the girls and to be part of their journey: “It is an honour to be their dressmaker, I will break a leg or an arm when they are out performing their dance, especially when they are on television because the outer appearance is just as important as the inner, the heart and the soul.”
