Cape Town is set to be spellbound this June as the College of Magic, in a proud partnership with the City of Cape Town, brings its latest family spectacular, Makin’ Magic, to the prestigious Artscape Theatre.

Running for four performances only on 6 and 7 June, this dazzling production features a sensational cast of students and graduates who are ready to prove that the impossible is merely a matter of perspective. Combining high-stakes illusion, physical comedy, and heart-warming storytelling, the show is a masterclass in theatrical wonder, designed to transform a standard afternoon at the theatre into an unforgettable journey through the laboratory of the extraordinary.

The action centers on a brilliant but delightfully chaotic Professor, played by the charismatic Matthew Baldwin, whose eccentric experiments take a turn for the hilarious when a mysterious monster appears in his workshop.

What follows is a riotous chain reaction of magical mishaps and inventive illusions as the Professor and his young protégés race to save the day. A core theme of the production is the celebration of resourcefulness; audiences will witness common recycled objects and everyday household items being transformed into instruments of awe through nothing more than ingenuity and a touch of sorcery.

From large-scale stage illusions that defy the laws of physics to intimate close-up magic captured on live video, the variety-style performance ensures that every seat in the house offers a front-row experience.

Creative Director Chad Findlay describes the production as a fast-moving "variety mixtape" that invites the audience to step directly inside a magician’s imagination. Beyond the gasps and laughter, the show carries a deeper message of empowerment, championed by  JP Smith and the City of Cape Town, who view the collaboration as a vital investment in unlocking the potential of the region’s emerging performers.

By merging world-class skill with interactive participation, Makin’ Magic promises to leave young theatre-goers feeling like the heroes of their own stories. With tickets already available via WebTickets, families are encouraged to book early to witness this unique blend of heart, humour, and high-octane magic.
