In a recent development, the choir has infused its repertoire with the timeless Queen hit ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ delighting audiences with a fresh arrangement that has garnered global praise. Upon discovering their performance, Queen's drummer, Roger Taylor, shared his admiration through a heartfelt video on Instagram, which elicited both awe and encouragement among the choir's young members.
Founder and conductor Ralf Schmitt has promised fans an even richer South African experience for the 2026 shows, highlighting the nation’s diverse musical traditions. “Alongside classics such as ‘Mbube’ and ‘Homeless’, we have included Ghoema music, celebrating the joy of Tweede Nuwejaar and the vibrant culture of Cape Town,” he shares. The choir aims to encompass a wide range of South African genres, presenting cherished classics and modern hits alike. This includes an Amapiano medley and songs from celebrated artists such as Mango Groove, Hugh Masekela, Johnny Clegg, and Miriam Makeba.
Concert-goers can also look forward to iconic South African anthems like ‘African Dream’ and ‘Pata Pata’, as well as global hits reimagined through the choir’s unique lens—songs such as ‘Circle Of Life’, ‘Waka Waka’, and Toto’s ‘Africa’ featuring prominently in their sets. With this expanded repertoire, the Ndlovu Youth Choir seeks to captivate new audiences while paying homage to their cultural roots.
According to Tony Feldman of Showtime Management, Ndlovu Youth Choir productions are now integral events for South African audiences, uniting music lovers from the country’s varied cultures. “Every concert has a wonderful, generous energy,” he notes, emphasising the spirit of community that these performances evoke.
Based in the Moutse Valley in rural Limpopo, the Ndlovu Youth Choir has established itself as a treasured cultural group since its inception in 2009, receiving international acclaim, particularly after reaching the finals of America's Got Talent in Season 14. Their extensive touring across the USA and Europe, including prestigious performances at Carnegie Hall and for dignitaries like Trevor Noah, King Charles, and Bill Gates, cemented their reputation as a force in the music world.
As the choir prepares for their 2026 SA tour, excitement is palpable. The dynamic blend of 15 choristers and a live three-piece band promises an emotional journey filled with passion and authenticity. Given the choir's track record and the limited availability of only 12 concerts, interested fans are urged to secure their tickets promptly through www.showtime.co.za and www.ticketmaster.co.za. Don’t miss this chance to experience the magic of the Ndlovu Youth Choir live – it’s bound to be an unforgettable celebration of South African music.
