Alleged child rapist and child pornography creator Leano Vergotine, 41, will today learn his fate when Acting Judge Amanda Van Leeve is expected to deliver judgement in the Western Cape High Court, sitting at the Wynberg Regional Court.

Vergotine, from Ceres, faces 18 charges including rape, kidnapping, assault, and multiple child pornography-related offences after allegedly targeting several minors in separate incidents. The State alleged Vergotine kidnapped and raped a 16-year-old girl in September 2022, raped a 15-year-old boy while allegedly filming the attack, and groomed and raped a nine-year-old child on multiple occasions, while also recording the incident.

Video evidence has been central to the State's case, with prosecutors presenting multiple recordings allegedly made by Vergotine himself.

During closing arguments, defence attorney Nawaal Abduragmaan disputed several aspects of the charges, including the nature of certain alleged assaults, while conceding that video evidence linked to several counts existed before court.

State Prosecutor Renee Uys argued the charges were distinct, stemming from multiple videos recorded on the same day using a single device. If convicted, Vergotine faces a lengthy prison sentence.
