How Conwill Bowie turned tragedy into triumph in 'Wolf In Sheep's Clothing'

For many, a life-altering car accident represents an end; for Conwill Bowie, it was a metamorphosis. The Belhar-based actor, who once narrowly escaped a fatal collision, is now channeling that "second chance" into a powerhouse performance in the upcoming action thriller Wolf In Sheep's Clothing.

Bowie’s journey through the industry has been as cinematic as the roles he portrays. He first cut his teeth as a stuntman and "henchman" in the gritty short film series Uncle Billy—a role he landed without a single audition. Reflecting on those early days, Bowie recalled the transformative experience of filming on a military helicopter set, an environment that solidified his passion for the craft.

While audiences may recognise him from a minor role in the psychological thriller The Meeting, or remember his infectious energy during a live dancing segment on a DSTV talk show, Bowie is now stepping into the spotlight. In Wolf In Sheep's Clothing, written and directed by Nic Matthee, Bowie portrays Topcat, an ex-convict navigating a treacherous web of crime. The character serves as a digital informant, filming gang exploits to sell to a corrupt police captain.

"Filming a gunfight scene alongside talented drama students was exhilarating," Bowie remarked, noting the stark contrast between the graphic nature of his character’s torture scenes and the camaraderie shared behind the scenes. The production, spearheaded by the community-based initiative Red Moon Performing Arts, is also a significant milestone for the Bowie family. Making her professional debut alongside her father is young Skylar Murray, who stars as ‘Beertjie’.

As a father, Bowie is driven by a mission to inspire. He views his career not just as a pursuit of fame, but as a platform to encourage young fathers to persevere and to urge the youth to embrace their innate creative talents.

"My motivation centres on fostering positive change and challenging negative stereotypes," Bowie explained. "We must focus on the academic and creative potential of our youth. They possess immense capabilities but face limited opportunities."

The film is a collaborative effort, featuring a diverse cast including Nadia Gouws, Justin Malgas, and Tyrique Williams, supported by drama students from Roosendaal Secondary School. By involving local students, the production aims to transform visionary ideas into actionable steps, proving that "the impossible" is achievable through collective effort.

Wolf In Sheep's Clothing is scheduled for a dual premiere on Tubi TV and the Red Moon Performing Arts YouTube channel on 27 August 2026.
