For nearly six decades, the Blisters for Bread Charity Family Fun Walk has united families, schools, businesses, and community organisations in a powerful stand against child hunger in the Western Cape. However, as the event approaches its 58th year, the future of this cherished tradition is threatened by a pressing financial shortfall.
The Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA), which organises the walk, is urgently seeking R1.5 million in sponsorship funding to cover essential operational costs. This critical funding ensures that entry fees remain affordable for participants, while 100% of the proceeds raised can directly benefit PSFA's vital school feeding programmes. Without this swift corporate support, the 2026 Blisters for Bread walk risks cancellation, potentially devastating families, schools, and communities that rely on the event each year.
“Without this support, we risk losing not only this event but a powerful platform for the community to show solidarity against child hunger,” warned PSFA Chairman, Brian Benatar. The walk has become a beacon of hope, raising awareness and funding for childhood hunger, feeding over 30,000 learners daily through PSFA's nutrition support programme.
As a trusted platform for collaboration, Blisters for Bread has woven a rich tapestry of public participation into its fabric while maintaining a strong focus on social impact. For many, the walk represents one of the few affordable and inclusive events within the community, embracing members of all ages and backgrounds as they rally together to support vulnerable children.
Corporate involvement has historically played a significant role in the success of the event. “Blisters for Bread continues to demonstrate what is possible when business and community work together,” said PSFA Director, Petrina Pakoe. Sponsorship offers companies credible brand visibility, opportunities for employee engagement, and alignment with a respected NGO tackling food insecurity among schoolchildren.
“We are sincerely grateful to the companies that have stood by us year after year,” Pakoe added, acknowledging the diverse ways businesses contribute through donations, corporate hospitality, and activations. Their unwavering support is instrumental in maintaining the walk's affordability and making a lasting difference in the lives of children who depend on PSFA’s meals.
The PSFA is calling on the corporate sector to partner in realising the 2026 Blisters for Bread Charity Family Fun Walk. They invite interested companies to engage in sponsorship opportunities. “With an event that represents a celebration of community spirit and a stand against a pressing social issue, businesses can make a tangible impact,” Benatar pointed out.
For those eager to take part in this worthwhile cause and ensure the continuation of the Blisters for Bread walk, the PSFA is ready to discuss partnership possibilities.
