In an exciting development for the culinary scene in Africa and the Middle East, renowned South African chef George Jardine has been appointed as the head of culinary innovation for Savor, a brand under the global hospitality powerhouse Valor Hospitality Partners.

With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Jardine is celebrated for his pioneering role in South Africa’s fine dining landscape and now aims to elevate the dining experiences across the region.

Jardine steps into this new role with a mission to deliver bespoke, sustainable and locally-inspired culinary experiences.

“This is a new chapter for me, and I’m thrilled to explore the diversity of African and Middle Eastern ingredients,” he remarked in a press statement.

His vision is clear: to showcase local flavours that not only tantalise the taste buds but also tell the rich stories of the regions they originate from.

Central to Jardine’s strategy is a commitment to innovation and sustainability. He plans to spearhead the development of cutting-edge food and beverage concepts, collaborating with local chefs and food and beverage experts to curate menus that reflect the unique character of each location.

“There’s a huge opportunity to celebrate African and Middle Eastern produce, and we are bringing those ingredients to the forefront,” he explained.

To enhance guest experiences, Jardine’s approach focuses on creating memorable, meaningful dining moments.

“This is about more than just great food—it’s about creating connections and promoting sustainability,” he added.

As he collaborates with a diverse team of global culinary professionals, their mission will be to reimagine dining in hotels and independent restaurants, ensuring both international travellers and residents can enjoy unique gastronomic experiences tailored to regional cultures and tastes.

Moreover, Jardine’s work is part of a broader initiative to establish new standards for food and beverage programs in the region.

“We are combining innovation with authenticity,” he noted. “At every Valor property, the goal is to create something special, rooted in the local identity, and crafted with the utmost respect for the environment.”

Jardine's appointment comes at a time when the culinary world is experiencing a wave of fresh talent, groundbreaking collaborations, and appointments.

Earlier this month, Tang Hospitality Group announced the appointment of another culinary powerhouse, chef Erick Oshiro, as their new global culinary director.

Oshiro, with over 20 years of experience in the international culinary scene, will enhance the brand’s Japanese and Pan-Asian offerings, ensuring they remain at the forefront of gastronomic excellence.

In his new role, he will spearhead Tang’s international expansion, particularly the eagerly awaited opening of Tang Dubai at the Palace Downtown.

As both Jardine and Oshiro embark on their respective journeys, the future of culinary innovation in hospitality looks promising, promising guests not only exceptional food but also a deeper connection to the rich cultural tapestries of Africa and the Middle East.
