Deputy President Paul Mashatile is currently responding to questions from Members of Parliament in the National Assemby.

These include his responsibilities, including service delivery, crime intelligence, and agricultural development.

Acting spokesperson Keith Khoza said MPs would be updated on the government’s interventions to improve municipal governance.

In line with a constitutional mandate for Members of Cabinet to account to Parliament for the exercise of their powers and performance, Deputy President Mashatile will answer questions on service delivery,” Khoza said.

“He will update MPs on the Government’s efforts to implement rapid response interventions on service delivery and address trouble spots in municipalities, with the aim of improving governance across the country.''

On the fresh produce sector, Khoza said Mashatile would brief Parliament on government interventions following the Competition Commission’s market inquiry in January 2025.

“These interventions are aimed at increasing annual sales of small-scale and historically disadvantaged farmers through the National Fresh Produce Markets,” he said.

Regarding crime, Khoza said MPs would be informed about “multi-sectoral coordination and intelligence-driven strategies undertaken by Government to curb the scourge of gangsterism.”

Mashatile will also respond to questions on land reform and agricultural development in rural areas, municipal debt settlements to Eskom, and government’s approaches to tackling the disproportionate HIV prevalence in women and girls, Khoza added.
