Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for suspects following the brutal killing of two tourists in the Kruger National Park. The bodies of a 71-year-old male and an unidentified female were discovered near Cross Corner at the intersection of the Levubu and Limpopo River.
According to SAPS Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the victims arrived at one of the camps in the park on Sunday, driving a green Ford Ranger double cab.
The pair was last seen on Wednesday morning, May 20, at the Pafuri picnic site. A search operation was launched after they failed to return.
"The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear at this stage, and the police have opened two counts of murder and hijacking for further investigation."
Their bodies were discovered on Friday afternoon, floating at Cross Corner on the banks of the Levubu River near the Limpopo River intersection.
Police, emergency services, SANParks officials, and the Border Management Authority responded to the scene.
Investigators said the male victim sustained stab wounds to the upper body, while the female victim also suffered severe injuries allegedly inflicted with a sharp object.
The vehicle believed to have been used by the victims, a green Ford Ranger double cab, is missing.
Police say investigations are ongoing in close cooperation with Kruger National Park authorities, while anyone with information has been urged to contact the investigating officer.
