Western Cape matrics will write their final exams on Wednesday, closing a smooth-running season that saw 112 papers completed across the province.

A total of 1 470 candidates will sit for Agricultural Management Practices, Marine Sciences or Music Comprehension on the final day.

Education MEC David Maynier praised the clean execution of the 2025 exam session.

“The exam session has run smoothly this year, thanks to the exceptional management by our officials and school staff,” he said in a WCED statement. “This is a massive administrative task, and we appreciate the support that the public has shown during the exams.”

He also saluted teachers for their dedication.

“Thank you to our matric teachers who have worked tirelessly to prepare our candidates for these exams. Your support has built a strong foundation for your learners’ future lives and careers, and we appreciate the extra time and effort you have put in throughout the year.”

As thousands of matrics prepare for Matric Rage festivities nationwide, safety warnings are rolling in.

“We know this is an exciting moment for matrics, they’ve earned it,” said Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing and Communications at Fidelity Services Group. “But our experience shows that planning ahead, staying aware, and using available safety technology can make the difference between a memorable celebration and a dangerous situation.”

Fidelity urged teens to use tracking apps, carry panic devices, avoid isolated walks, stay aware in crowds and protect their digital privacy.

“Freedom and safety can absolutely go hand in hand,” Hattingh said. “It just takes awareness, planning, and smart decisions.”

Marking begins immediately, with 4 190 markers tackling more than 954 000 scripts at 12 centres. National results will be released on 12 January, with candidates receiving theirs on 13 January.

“Congratulations to all our matrics for completing the exams,” Maynier said. “We can’t wait to celebrate with you when the results are released next year.”
