Western Cape police officers joined the battle against breast cancer, teaming up with Gift of the Givers and The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) on an awareness walk.
Muizenberg beach was hit by a wave of pink, blue and green on Wednesday, and supporters rallied to take part in the 5km and 10km walks.
The crowd of approximately 1 500 cops from 63 police stations marched alongside cancer survivors and those currently battling the disease, sending a powerful message that no one fights alone in the final week of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Manenberg SAPS station commander Brigadier Jayce Naidoo said: “As SAPS members, we are more than law enforcement officers; we are a family of human beings who have pledged to protect and serve our nation.
“This Cancer Walk is more than an event, it is a moment where we stand together so you are not alone in your battle to survive.
“It is a declaration that healing is everyone’s business. It is a moment to honour those who have survived, to remember those we have lost, and to stand together as a force to be reckoned with
“We also reaffirm our commitment to promoting healthy living and supporting those among us who face life altering health challenges.”
Each participant received a gift bag courtesy of Gift of the Givers.
Naidoo added: “As we walked, we were reminded that life, despite its trials, remains beautiful. Nature’s splendour reflects the resilience of the human spirit.
“And through every step, we carry the message that God remains God, even in our darkest hours. To every survivor: you are still you. Your strength is our inspiration.”
