A Knysna Municipality employee and SA Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) representative is expected to appear in court after he was arrested for allegedly accepting money in exchange for providing jobs.

Thembela Kralo, 41, was arrested on Wednesday on two counts of corruption under the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, said the State alleges that Kralo was approached by a woman looking for work at the municipality.

Kralo allegedly informed her that she needed to pay R10 000 to make the job opportunity happen.

They allegedly agreed that she will pay R5 000 since she did not have R10 000.

In September 2019 she made the payment of R5 000 after which he also took her CV.

In June 2022 on request of Kralo she made another payment of R2 500 to him.

Both payments were made by way of EFT.

In the second count, the State alleges that Kralo was approached by a man in November 2021.

He offered to accept R30 000 to arrange for a job opportunity for the man and his wife.

The R30 000 was paid in cash to the accused. The man also provided the accused with their CVs.

"The State alleges that the accused, an employee of Knysna Municipality and a representative of SAMWU was arrested (Wednesday) on two counts of contravening the provisions of Section 4 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 12 of 2004.

"Thembela Kralo, 41, will appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court on two counts of corruption," said Ntabazalila.
