Incoming mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis told the crowd at the elections results centre "it is an absolute pleasure to announce that election projections show, voters have returned the DA to government".
Hill-Lewis speaking at Century City said he wanted to offer what the party has coined as the, “DA difference”.
"We want to make this the best place to live in South Africa - no matter who you are, where you come from, what community you are in."
He added: "We want every South African to feel proud of that. We want every South African to see it and feel it in their own lives and we want to show that in Cape Town."
Hill-Lewis said they wanted to protect residents from the consequences of failing basic services at a national level.
"In electricity, safety and policing and public transport. We have a strong mandate for the new DA government that is going to do more to protect residents and the City of Cape Town from those consequences."
At 34, Hill-Lewis will be the youngest person to take up the position as mayor. He said he felt excited about the road ahead.
"There are two weeks to go before the inauguration and the council gets started. There's time for preparation and time to focus on our priorities."
Hill-Lewis said their projections showed that their majority vote would be around 58.5%.
"I want to say thank you. We appreciate the support the residents of Cape Town have given to the Democratic Alliance, the faith they have shown in me and our party, for what we want to do in the next five years," he said.
He added: "We appreciate this endorsement, and we will work every single day, over the next five years to ensure that residents are proud of the decision they made."
Hill-Lewis said the purpose of their government was to to improve the lives of the poorest, expand opportunity, grow the economy and improve safety and security.
"We want Cape Town to be a place of pride and hope in South Africa. We want people to see what is possible with a good government, a DA government."
