The eThekwini Municipality has imposed water restrictions in several areas today, including Chatsworth, Hillary, Malvern and Queensburgh, due to emergency repairs on a pipeline.
A statement issued on its social media page said the pipeline was expected to be operational by Friday.
"Residents are informed of water restrictions in areas that are supplied from the Firwood, Northdene, Shallcross, Klaarwater, and Chatsworth 4 Reservoirs. The restriction is due to emergency repairs that will be undertaken at the leaks on the 1 000 diameter bulk steel pipeline on Alpine Drive, ranging from the Northdene Reservoir to the Chatsworth 1 Reservoir."
The pipeline, said the statement, would be isolated until this afternoon.
"Water supply will be restricted during this period. Though the pipeline is expected to be operational by Friday, water is expected to be fully-restored over the next seven days taking into consideration the water levels at the dependent reservoirs and the demand in each reservoir zone."
They encouraged residents to always use water sparingly during this time.
"Water tankers will be dispatched to affected communities."
Affected areas include: Umlazi System: UMlazi (All sections), Nsimbini, Folweni and Golokodo. The central water network areas include: Arena Park, Bayview, Buffels Bosch, Bulbul, Burlington Heights, Chatsworth Town Centre, Coedmore, Croftdene, Crossmoor, Ehlanzeni, Ezihyathini, Havenside, Hillary, Kharwastan, Klaarwater, Kwamgaga, Malvern, Mariann Industrial Park and Memorial Park.
The other areas are: Mobeni Heights, Montford, Moorton, Moseley Park, Mount Vernon, Northdene, Queensburgh, Queensmead Industrial, Risecliff, Savannah Park, Shallcross, Silverglen, St Wendolins Ridge, Umhlatuzana, Welbedacht East, Welbedacht West, Westcliff, Woodhurst, Woodlands and Yellowwood Park.
