POST, Hisense and ISACC fun walk/run will ‘bring communities together’

THE POST, Hisense, India South Africa Chamber of Commerce (ISACC) Diwali fun walk/run promises to be “bigger and better” this year with a R11 000 washing machine up for grabs and free t-shirts to the first 400 entrants.

The event will take place on October 26, starting at the Siphosethu Road grounds, in Mount Edgecombe.

The 5km walk will start at 6:30am with registration from 5:30am. Entry is R30.

Neermala Thool, chairperson of the Mount Edgecombe Arts and Cultural Council, said they had secured R65 000 in sponsorships for the fun run/walk.

“This year’s event will also embrace the spirit of Diwali - good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.”

“The fun run/walk is a good way to kickstart the Diwali celebrations. We will be eating a lot of rich foods, so keeping fit is important. It also helps promote healthy living,” she added.

POST editor Yogas Nair said the collaboration with major sponsors like Hisense and ISACC was a welcome move for this year’s “bigger and better” event.

“As the voice and heart of the community, this event is close to our hearts and what better festival than Diwali to bring communities together,” said Nair.

“Last year’s event saw close onto 200 entries. This year we are hoping to double that number. We encourage communities to come out in their numbers and support this event,” she added.

Seelan Achary, chairman of the Shree Marieammen Temple said: “We urge all communities to join this fun event. The first 400 participants will receive a free T-shirt.”

He added that there will also be a lucky draw for the participants with gift sponsorships from Hisense and the POST.

“Our main prize is a washing machine valued at R11 000 sponsored by Hisense,” said Achary.

Atul Padalkar, spokesperson of the ISACC said as an organization they aimed to improve trade and investment between India and South Africa.

“This walk is more of an awareness platform for ISACC. We sponsored the 400 t-shirts valued at R100 each to create more exposure and improve collaborations,” said Padalkar.

Various sponsors have also come on board with food, water, cooldrinks, etc. They include AB Projects, Thumba Projects, Phoenix Villagers, Woodview Athletics Club, Bhejane Groups, Megcon Logistics, and Fireworks King.

Early entries close on October 24. Cash only entries will be taken on the morning of the race.
