Rudie Lubbe and Chantelle Oosthuizen are due in court soon for the gruesome murder of former World Champion high jumper Jacques Freitag.

The two were arrested on Tuesday by police in Sabie, Mpumalanga, at a hideout in one of the guesthouses.

“The manhunt for Freitag’s alleged murderers has ended, following the arrest of Lubbe and Oosthuizen,” said Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili.

“The pair were arrested by the police in Sabie, Mpumalanga, at their hideout in one of the guesthouses.

“They will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Muridili.

On July 10, Gauteng police launched a manhunt for Freitag’s alleged killers.

This was amid the Hercules police having obtained warrants of arrest for Lubbe and Oosthuizen, who were believed to be on the run from the law following the discovery of 42-year-old Freitag’s body on July 1. According to unconfirmed reports, the champion had been shot.

Lubbe and Oosthuizen are facing charges which include murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Freitag’s body was discovered near the Zandfontein cemetery in Andeon, Hercules policing precinct.

The discovery was made by the SAPS Search and Rescue Team which comprised SAPS units such as the Air Wing, Water Wing, K9 unit and the local police.

Freitag, a former high jump champion, was adored by his family and friends.

His sister, Chrissie Lewis, took to social media platforms such as X and Facebook, on June 27 to report that her brother, Freitag, was missing.

A number of people also shared the information on their walls, to assist the sister to find her brother.
