Johannesburg - The prevalent idea that real don’t show their emotions has compelled some to stand up and dispel the myth and provide a platform for men to be open about everything.
As International Men’s Day approaches, popular entrepreneur Thato “TT” Mbha, is set to host an Amatyma suit-up premium experience on November 19 at St Tropez in Sandton.
The Amatyma is a wellness network that seeks to address the wellness of men in an open manner, focusing on three pillars: physical, mental, and financial wellness.
Mbha took it upon himself to rally “amatyma” to speak about wellness issues that affect men.
He says men were known to be “hard nuts to crack, a species that bottles everything up because society has labelled sensitive men as weak”.
This men-only event aims to unpack conversations and their day-to-day experiences.
Mbha, who speaks passionately about fatherhood, aims to gather men from all walks of life not only to speak about the harsh realities of being male, but also to create an environment where men can learn from each other.
He said men also needed a platform where they can be open about their life experiences.
Mbha noted that many events are held when it comes to women's day, “there are a lot of high teas that happen, and women's agenda, forums, conferences, breakfast sessions, Dinners, awards, galas, but when it comes to international men's day nothing happens”.
“So I thought this year we are going to change the narrative, we are going to create something for men by men, where men must dress up, they must look good, they must feel good about themselves. And they must be among other men who are going to inspire them, whether the inspiration comes physically from how well they look in a suit or mentally to sharing some of their journeys and experiences with other men,” he said.
He added that with International Men’s Day on the horizon, he wanted to create a safe space for men so that they can learn from each other.
“International Men’s Day is around the corner, and to date, we can count very few events that have been hosted by men for men. When I was conceptualising this event, I really wanted to create a safe platform for men to talk. Men don’t talk, and as a result, a lot of things are left unsaid. There are so many events for women on Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, but when it comes to Men’s Day, there are a few events that cater to men,” said Mbha.
