Johannesburg - Former ANC student activist and political commentator Mcebo Dlamini has blasted President Cyril Ramaphosa, calling him a mascot and a puppet of white monopoly capital (WMC).

He said the country’s state of leadership leaves much to be desired ahead of the 55th ANC National Conference in Nasrec, adding that the ANC has failed to produce capable leaders who will be able to take the country forward. He was speaking during an interview on Newzroom Afrika on Sunday.

"The ANC of OR Tambo, Walter Sisulu, and Zakes Mda produced leaders. They had a succession plan. They had programmes. Currently, we are naked. What we are seeing now is the vacuum and a lack of leadership. There are no leadership but just human beings occupying positions of leadership, but they are not leaders because a leader is someone who understands that he is not there for himself. He is there for the people. The problem we have today is that these leaders who are leading today assume or think that they are leading themselves," he said.

Ahead of the Section 89 report vote in Parliament on Tuesday, Dlamini said there is nothing to look forward to, saying the MPs do not inspire any confidence because they destroyed youth activism. He said in 2017, the ANC called for renewal, but instead, the party has collapsed into ashes.

"But today, they are comparing the ANC of 2017 to when they attacked the Zuma government. The nine wasted years, they say Zuma did that. They are comparing themselves with the same thing that they have been attacking. It shows that there is nothing there really," Dlamini said.

Dlamini said the ANC had been infiltrated by people who should not be in the party. He said certain people who are business people infiltrated the party, which has contributed to the party being divisive and uninspiring.

"We were told that certain people are businesspeople, but I can tell you that Cyril Ramaphosa is not a businessperson. He knows nothing about business. He is probably a mascot. He is a clown who is masquerading as a businessperson and a leader. He is impersonating a leader and a president, but he is not.

"Rich people, billionaires, and business people do not contest power. They influence power in different ways. They influence policies. "Immediately, when you see a so-called business person contesting a position a public position, then you must know that that is a puppet being used by white monopoly capital to control the anger of the black people and subject black people into abject poverty while white people continue being rich," Dlamini added.

He also called Ramaphosa a stooge who is protecting the interests of white monopoly capital while black people live in abject poverty.

"They will say the leadership is black, but this is a stooge of white people, and we are not going anywhere. I have heard a lot of people saying he is a Mafia, but it is an insult to the Mafia family. He is not a Mafia; the real Mafias know what the role of the Mafia is. When you look at the Mafias, they take care of the communities they come from. They take care of the people so that the people can protect them. Who can protect and defend him because all of us are in abject poverty and disarray? We are suffering as a country," he said.
