The countdown toThe Star’s” annual Women’s Day celebration has begun, inviting women from all walks of life to join the immersive and vibrant day celebrating their contributions in various facets of their lives.

The day is intended to create a safe space for women to speak openly about even the most highly contentious subjects they run into in their daily lives, in keeping with the theme, “The Choice Is Yours”.

Among the notable guests are Radio 2000’s DJ Nkosh, Spicey Luscious, Enhle the Medium, Sister in Law Tebello, Dr Brian Monaisa, and Unathi Nkayi, who will serve as the host.

A few of the guests will be providing thought-provoking speeches that will heighten the importance of the day.

Nkosazana “DJ Nkosh” Mayeye, who is renowned for her captivating demeanour and ability to control the decks, is back in this affair.

Mayeye stated that she is contributing to the advancement of women and girls, giving them hope, and empowering them to realise that they are capable of anything.

She went into detail about what sparked her interest again and emphasised how pro-women she is.

“First and foremost, I am all for all things women, and the fact that it is also my birthday month. So the fact that it’s an event that mainly focuses on the needs of women. I knew that I needed to be part of it. It’s always great to see women together, happy and enjoying each other’s company, because if we are honest, women are always sold as not getting along and all of those things. So it is such a beautiful day where you are able to see women getting together and making new friendships and just being happy in one space together.”

As the featured DJ for the day, she said her focus this year is on making sure everyone has a great time and keeping them entertained.

“I am just about people having a good time; whenever there’s a break, I want people to be dancing. There’s a lot of speeches, so and whatever in between, so taking things up a notch is making sure I keep people on their feet.’’

Asked what a safe space means to her, she said: “A safe space for me is where you can be totally yourself without feeling like you will be judged. Where you can also allow everybody else to be themselves without judging them. Allowing everybody that comes from different spaces and different lives to be comfortable enough to tell their stories.

“Because honestly, we all do not come from the same background. You actually get to understand that when you are in a safe space, even if you are not from the same background, at the end of the day there is a place where we can all meet, and we can say this is what we are all going through, even if it happens in different ways in our lives.”
