Johannesburg – Two ANC delegates are facing criminal charges after they were caught photographing ballot papers.
More delegates might also face criminal charges as some were caught with signal jamming devices at the party’s 55th national elective conference on Monday.
This was announced by the ANC’s electoral committee chairperson, Kgalema Motlanthe, before announcing the election results.
"Two delegates were caught photographing ballot papers; they were reported to the SAPS. They are facing criminal charges, and their memberships have been revoked," said Motlanthe.
Ramaphosa was re-elected as ANC president after defeating Dr Zweli Mkhize by 579 votes.
When the results were announced, Ramaphosa’s supporters sang a praise song for him; they later mocked Mkhize’s supporters, who were calling for a change in leadership.
Professor Thuli Madonsela took to Twitter to congratulate Ramaphosa.
"Congratulations Ramaphosa on being re-elected president of the ANC for a second term. Blessings as you and your team tackle the Herculean task ahead," wrote Madonsela.
KwaZulu-Natal, which rallied behind Mkhize for the position of president, said they accepted the outcomes.
Provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo told the media saying that they (as a province) fought a good fight.
"We fought a good fight; Ramaphosa was elected democratically, and we accept that he won. As KZN, we have no choice but to support him. We also accept the election of the Top 7," said Mtolo.
