Johannesburg - In the early hours of Sunday, Limpopo police arrested a 23-year-old suspect, for alleged drug possession and dealing at Seshego Zone 4 Extension in Polokwane.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said members of the crime prevention unit were patrolling at about 2.30am when they received information about three suspects who were sitting in a vehicle and selling drugs.

"They cautiously approached it and, suddenly, the suspects allegedly started firing at the police and immediately pulled off," Ledwaba said.

"The police returned fire and apparently punctured one of the rear wheels. The suspects proceeded driving towards Extension 76, on the outskirts of Polokwane, where two of them jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot into the darkness. The third suspect, who was the passenger, was arrested."

During the arrest, the police confiscated crystal meth and cat. The suspect is due to appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police investigations are continuing.
